Age groups follow the FA's rule: they're based on your child's age on 31 August at the start of the season. That means children in the same school year play in the same age group.
A child who is 8 on 31 August plays in the Under 9s that season, and moves up an age group the next season.
| Age on 31 August | Age group |
|---|---|
| 6 | Under 7 |
| 7 | Under 8 |
| 8 | Under 9 |
| 9 | Under 10 |
| 10 | Under 11 |
…and so on.
On the registration form
When you enter your child's date of birth, the form shows a Suggested age group. You can choose a different one if you've already agreed it with the club — for example a child playing up. You'll see a warning that this flags the registration for the club to check.
Academies
The Foundation Academy and Girls Development Academy each cover a range of ages, worked out the same way. If your child is outside the range, the form tells you. When a child grows out of the academy, the club moves them on to a team at the start of the new season.
